How much screen time is too much for my child?

Even before the pandemic caused so many children to be in front of their computer screens daily for online learning, a child's exposure to screen time was an often-debated topic. But whether it's for entertainment or education, young children continue to spend more time than ever glued to their TVs, laptops, and smart devices. For example, a 2022 study published in JAMA Pediatrics said that average daily screen use by children during the pandemic increased by more than an hour and twenty minutes.

How can I make everyday life educational for my child?

Your child’s brain is like a sponge and soaks up everything around her. Each moment and new experience shapes her development, both emotionally and intellectually. Helping your little one soak up as much knowledge as she can when she’s young will benefit her throughout her lifetime. Learning is not always done with pencil and paper, nor is learning limited to the classroom. You can help to make everyday life educational for your child through enjoyable interactive activities.

Should your child take a break from learning over vacation?

Use these tips to help prevent the summer slide from kicking in over the long winter holiday break. Just before the start of break, have a discussion with your child’s teacher to learn more about the lessons your child’s class is working on. When you know what’s going on in the classroom, you can focus on certain skills you and your child would like to strengthen or retain over the holidays.
